An Introduction to Torremolinos
Torremolinos is located 10 minutes west of Málaga International airport and was the first Costa del Sol resort to be developed back in the early sixties it was then little more than a sleepy village. Today the town reflects its heritage and there are several of the original fresh fish bars right in the shopping centre.Now however they are surrounded by stylish boutiques and gift shops.
Torremolinos has 6 beaches: Los Alamos, Playamar, Bajondillo, La Carihuela, Montemar and El Saltillo. The main promenade has recently undergone improvements with additional landscaping and wider pavements. Now all the beaches are linked.
The further to the east the quieter the beaches are. Leaving the road behind at Los Alamos the beach is very quiet. The Real Club de Golf de Malaga (oldest in mainland Spain) and the Parador back the beach here. Further on Guadalmar, Málaga Recently achieved official naturist status by Malaga town hall.
West of the headland of Castillo de Santa Clara is the beach areas of La Carihuela and Montemar.
La Carihuela is a favourite and offers pleasant sea views and some dramatic rock formations, plus the old fishing village of La Carihuela which is a delightful area of picturesque simple houses and bougainvillea clad patios where old men play dominoes, drink anis and while away their days
The seafront promenade, extends west behind the expansive and popular beaches of Montemar and El Saltillo and continues as far as Benalmadena Marina. This is the area also known for its excellent seafood restaurants and chiringuitos (beach bars).
Gay Scene
The Gay scene in Torremolinos is not easily missed even if you are only here for a quick visit. There are many local gays, lots of gay tourists and plenty gay places to frequent.
There are many young Spanish and Latin guys living in Torremolinos second only to Madrid.It has the feeling of a gay village: Nogalera alone has more than 30 gay bars, clubs and restaurants.
